Fire and Rescue Battles Early Morning Blaze


Stafford, VA – September 1, 2017 – Stafford County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to Cornwallis Drive in south Stafford at approximately 1:40 am today for a reported house fire. The initial caller indicated the entire roof was on fire and spreading quickly. First arriving units found a single family residence with fire throughout the structure. Crews could not determine if the home was occupied initially and began immediate extinguishment efforts while searching for any signs of occupants. Crews worked for twenty minutes to contain the fire and for an additional ten minutes to complete a search of the home with no one located. Relatives of the homeowners arrived on the scene approximately an hour after the initial call and confirmed the residents were not at home at the time of the fire.

Crews continued to work on extinguishing the fire and remained on the scene for approximately four hours. The Fire Marshals Office is investigating the fire and the cause has not been determined yet. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Stations/Units responding to the incident: Falmouth, Berea, Stafford, Mountain View, White Oak, Garrisonville, Brooke, Hartwood, City of Fredericksburg, Operations Assistant Chief, Operations Deputy Chief, and Operations Battalion Chief. Units were assisted by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Dominion Energy, and Columbia Gas.
