Stafford, VA – February 5, 2017 – Stafford County firefighters responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 200 block of Cropp Road at 1:30 am today. The engine crew from the Hartwood Station arrived first on the scene within twelve minutes and found a large storage building behind the residence fully involved in fire. Additional units arrived a short time later and assisted in extinguishing the fire within twenty-five minutes. Crews performed salvage and overhaul for approximately an hour and assisted the Fire Marshals Office with their investigation. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters and EMS personnel from Hartwood Station 6, Falmouth Station 1, Stafford Company 2, Widewater Station 3. Mountain View Station 4, Brooke Station 5, Rock Hill Station 8, Rock Hill EMS Station 8, Berea Station 12, Shelton Shop Station 14, and Fauquier County responded to the alarm. The Fire Marshals Office determined the cause of the fire to be storage of combustible material too close to a heating device. Damage to the building was estimated at $50,000 and contents at $10,000.
